A reissue gives you a fresh certificate for the same order, during its validity period, at no extra cost. It's the fix when something about the certificate needs to change without buying a new one.
When to reissue
- Your private key was lost or compromised (reissue with a new key immediately).
- You need to change the CSR or move to a stronger key.
- You need to add, remove or correct domains on a multi-domain (SAN) certificate.
- You're migrating servers and want a clean certificate and key on the new box.
How to reissue
From the certificate's detail page in your account, start a reissue, submit your new CSR, and re-complete domain validation. The CA issues a replacement certificate; install it in place of the old one.
Reissue vs renew vs reactivate
- Reissue - free, same order, within the current validity. Changes the certificate's key or domains.
- Renew - a new purchase for a fresh term.
- Reactivate - the free next certificate inside a multi-year plan.
